Intake resonators

Just wondered what people consider is the purpose of these. Are they for intake noise reduction or for pulse tuning? Or both?

Alfa spend a fortune on tuning the intake and exhaust systems to ensure they sound like real engines rather than sound like vacuum cleaners.

Indeed they do.

The Mk5 RS2000 was acoustically tuned to sound like an Alfa, as was the MX-5. Both pretty successfully as well.

Pulse tuning. A lot of cars have variable length inlet tracts to vary pulse tuning with revs.
