Intermittent drum noise

Any usual suspects for intermittent noise from brake drums under braking? Sounds similar to when your brake pads have worn down to the backing and are grinding your discs away, but it's mysteriously gone away...

Could be a lip on the drum that's catching on the shoe.

Happened to my ZX, the bloody shoe retaining pin came adrift and left the spring and collar floating about.

I get it with my motor, despite having fitted new disks/pads all round. Usually worse when it's been standing in bad weather (even over night) and clears after a few stops. My only guess is a bit of corrosion getting worn off as I've not managed to find anything else.
