Almost always. They're quite complicated 'cos they have to reverse the current flow and also be able to cut it altogether.

If you're happy taking thing apart, you can usually dismantle 'em and clean up the contacts. Might need to bend the leaves a little as it's often lack of contact pressure that causes the trouble as well.

Ill take a look, although I figured it more likely to be something like a relay, given they have both failed.

On the Mk IV Escort the "cut it altogether" was "cope with the stall current of the motor." Not a very elegant solution.

I have just looked in the haynes for this one and in typical useless haynes fashion they just say that a relay for the electric windows is in the fuse box, no mention of which one it is !!! So don't get a manual for this problem alone.

However, the only problems I have come across on these have always been the switch, although a break in the wiring can happen to anything or there will be a fuse for them.
