L-reg Mazda E2200 diesel van - two batteries???

Anyone know why the subject vehicle might have two batteries (one under each front seat)?

Many diesels have two batteries, it gives more 'go' without needing one enormous battery tray.

Ah, so presumably they're connected in parallel. We currently own an (almost) identical P-reg van which only has one battery. Is the second battery "optional"?

Yes they are most likely in parallel, it may well be a country dependent option, so one van might have them one might not, also someone may just have added an extra battery.

Second battery could be only for running auxiliaries, as in fridge etc.. in a camper conversion for instance.

You may well find out the difference when the cold weather sets in. Have you got your jump leads ready?

I had an imported Pajero that had 2 batteries. The garage told me it was because the jeep is sold in countries where the temperature can be that low it needs to 2 batteries for more oomph to start the thing!

Don't know how true that was!

Battery performance drops dramatically with temperature, so almost certainly true.

NA Diesel Landrovers used to typify this.
