mazda 626 1999 headlamp removal

Hello all,

I want to fit a new headlight assambly to my 1999 mazda 626, but I can't get the old one unmounted. Does anyone know if it is really neccesary to loosen the front bumper in order to remove the headlight, or is it just a matter of brute force to pull out the old one?
