Mazda not firing

Dec 11, 2007 5 Replies

As posted in uk.rec.cars.misc but guessing this is a better group for it.....

Mazda MX6 / 1994 / 2.5 V6

Car started , ran for a few seconds and then conked out, won't re start. Fuel is getting to the plugs. If I run with any of the plugs out I get one spark at best.

Any ideas?

Cheers, Rick

is all the cam gear turning? crank sensor possibly.

read the codes, you need a paperclip and an led: ign off bridge GND and TEN connect an led across +B and GND (led needs + to +B)

turn ign on count flashes long flashes equal lh digit, short equal right

or just get its codes read by a garage or buy a code reader

The ignitor (in the dissy) was always a very firm favourite for dying without warning on these. Unfortunately they are not normally available without a new dissy around them (£400 last time I looked).

I believe there is a work around which involves one off something else.

Sorry I cant be of more help.. Tim..

Is there an easy way to tell, if so i'll have a look tomorrow.

Sounds like fun, I will give that a go when I get chance.

It is not a car I am familiar with, but if it has a distributor then it probably does not have a tdc sensor. Apparently there is a repair kit for the distributor faults at 164 plus vat from ford dealers. There is a self-help group at mx6.com which might be worth a look

Mrcheerful

I hadn't entertained the notion of it having a distributor, should make things clearer when I get chance to have a look in daylight.

Cheers.
