Mazda ignition problems - Ping PeteM

Hi,

Mazda MX6, 2.5 V6, L 1993 is not firing.

There is no spark at the plug.

As per advice in this group by PeteM I have tried to get a diagnostic code from it but there are no codes, even if I try to force a code by unplugging stuff.

I have changed the distributor but this has made no difference, that said mine had KL01 and a large A on it, the replacement has KF34 and a C.

Any input appreciated.

Which method are you using to try to get the codes? As a total lack of codes suggests a problem reading them or it is all due to a mechanical fault.

I am in the diagnostic plug, shorting across TEN and GND, I have a lamp across FEN and B+ but get nothing when I switch the ignition on.

Your connections are right according to Autodata but:

Have you tried a voltmeter instead of a lamp? It is recommended to use an LED or an analogue voltmeter, just count the needle swings. If you are using a bulb it may have too high a current requirement (just a possibility)

possibility)

Interesting, i'll give it a try.

I did get a led but managed to buy a flashing one, which defeated the object.
