Mg maestro ... knowledge required....

Is it true the twin webber carb from an mg maestro will fit onto a citroen axgt??? (Straight onto the manifold).

I'm getting a bit pi%%ed off with this carb icing lark that mine does every cold morning. Ok, sometimes i start and fast idle for 2 mins, then switch off for 5, then restart after the heat has risen, but sometimes i just want to go!!!

Its as sluggish as a 2 stroke moped when you drive it with the venturi covered in hoar frost.

Ah bugger it ... anymore of this frost lark and the 730i gets the salt treatment!!!

Fitting a different carb wont fix the problem....... repairing the hot intake air scoop/pipe/mechanism however will.

Not really broke ... just removed. I was hoping the different layout of a twin webber would suffer less from the icing problem.

No can do .... the original air filter tub/pre-heater assembly has been replaced with a carb top air filter (k and n). Sort of what they use on microlight engines ... nice and simple. The only goodish thing in winter is that the air filter is at the rear of the engine bay, thus sucking in wafted heat from the block. The bad thing is, in the summer, 100 degree centigrade air going into the carb doesn't help performance one bit!!! (Then i uncork the cold air feeds from under the bumper).

Could you not fabricate some sort of air box to go over the K&N? Bit of ducting to the exhaust shroud - Sorted! Take it off in summer. IFAIK microlight engines are either run full throttle or idle, not much in between, so maybe carb icing (or engine failure, come to think of it) isn't to much of a problem. I know it's *really* important to switch on the carb heater when landing light aircraft.

Either swap them over for winter and summer or get used to the icing up, a shroud of some sort from the exhaust may help, but get down the scrap yard and put a standard filter on for the winter is your best bet.
