Mondeo 1996 Si V6 ABS

ABS light came on this morning whilst driving and seems to do it when I get up to a certain speed. Discs and pads have recently been replaced and brakes seem to work fine. Any ideas what it could be and is it safe to drive?

TIA

IIRC the system doesn't work till about ten mph, and it has to check that each wheel is giving a signal. the fault may well be a damaged or dirty sensor, especially if they cut the old discs off. you need to find each sensor and clean any junk off it and try again, obviously check the wiring is undamaged and plugged in at the same time, you could also check that each sensor has a similar amount of continuity through it. You could also get a diagnostic done which should tell you which sensor has gone awol.

Thanks for the speedy reply. Could it also be anything to do with the huge amount of rain we had in the night? Is it safe to drive in the interim until I get it checked/sorted?

TIA

If you are an average sensible driver, then yes, it is safe to use. I have driven many cars with failed abs with no problems, you wouldn't know. The interesting bit is if you really stamp on the brakes, the rears may have no limitation and will lock first, the car then rotates !!
