Mondeo Handbrake Seized

Oct 23, 2006 3 Replies

Hi

My mondeo was left for 3 weeks parked with the hand brake on. As a result the brake has "locked" and the car will not move! Releasing the hand brake lever has no effect and trying to drive off in forward and reverse gear just makes the clutch slip.

Any advice? Thanks!

take the wheel off and with the handbrake released give the drum a whack with a large hammer, preferably a copper hammer

Year/mark of mondeo may help...

Depends if it's got drums or discs at the rear. I'm guessing drums, in which case take mrcheerfuls advise.

If discs, most likely sticking handbrake cables, in which case gently tap the lever back on the caliper, or you may even have to resort to cutting the cables at the calipers to get the handbrake off.

Tried it and sorted, many thanks!
