If you mean HID lamps they have a 'bulb' and ballast. Either could fail. Swop the bulbs to find out which.
If genuine Ford spares are a silly price try Ebay.
Thanks... the damn thing worked this morning so it suggests the electronic unit may be a problem. Could be the starting pulse fails to ignite the arc.
However an old bulb will give you that, if it works fine when very cold and not when it's hot then it's probably the bulb.
I'd swop the bulbs first. Neither are cheap to replace so you want to be sure.
