Mondeo TDcI 115/115 6 Speed/130

A friend of mine is thinking about one of these as their new family car.

About 25k miles/year driving - mostly commuting.

ANyone got any pearls of wisdom to look out for in a 1yr old?

Also - anyone know the exact differences between the engines, and why the 6 speed 1150 seems to have worse consumption than the 5?

Cheers Dan.

When I last looked, there weren't 6 speeds available, so I can't help there.

The difference between the 115 and the 130 that I'm aware of is that the

130 has an overboost on the turbo. When you really boot it, the turbo is under the control of the ECU, and it increases the boost pressure, to give you more power.

I don't know if the 115 is a _true_ TDCI also. When I was looking, the 115 was a TDDI (direct injection), and the 130 was a Common Rail diesel.

I appreciate things may have changed in the last 10 months, and the 115 may be a TDCI, just with different software on the ECU to the 130.

Checking the website...

The engines seem to share the same components (common rail, high pressure turbo, same engine management system), but the 130 has _way_ more torque, more than any of the other engines, including the ST220.

They've _really_ upgraded the Mondeos. LX now gives you cruise, trip computer etc. They used to be Ghia only. I want one :-(

The economy difference between the 5 and 6 speed manuals on the 115 engine may be down to the 6 speed being closer together, and not allowing the engine to work at its most efficient. The difference is only tiny anyway

5.6 cf 5.7 l/100km.

Thanks Pete, most interesting - HonestJohn review is a bit out of datae now - but I've dug some more stuff up and your reading is the same as mine - the 6 speed isn't an efficieny improvement.
