Hacked off somewhat - petrol Montego estate won't start, turns over but doesn't "spark". Have eliminated damp, changed the distributor cap, checked the battery, made sure there's fuel........what else could it be? Yours in desperation (I need it for the weekend), with thanks

it could be the ignition coil or the ignition module if you've got no spark, is the coil lead pushed fully home into the coil or the cap.
The message from "Catullus" contains these words:
You've actually checked that there is no spark at the plugs?
Last time I had one of them die it was the HT leads leaking all along their length - you could see the blue glow as dusk fell.
If there really is no spark, check that there's a spark coming out of the coil by taking the king-lead and putting the plug up that.
If /that/ doesn't work then it's probably lost the signal from the crankshaft sensor.
I assume you have checked that the cam belt is still there and turning?
Most common is rotor arm failure, they track down to the camshaft, just put a new one on anyway.
