Not really; it's the "extras" that make modern diesels cleaner. Fitting a new engine, finding the space for the diesel particulate filter and allied parts, adding the extra sensors and wiring, and fitting a new ECU to control it all would not be cost effective.

I'd say it might well be. Remember it wouldn't be a one off conversion. And cabs ain't like cars depreciation wise.
