No, I'm 100% with you on that last bit. That's why I / we would rather get something that was at lest useable (even if not ideal etc) that had just been stepped out of by a genuine user than something that had been tarted up for sale. I'm not bothered by how clean it its (inside or out) but would be bothered by seeing replacement bonnet and wings etc.

p.s. When I had the Rover it had been given a cheap 'blow-over' by the previous previous owner and was all peeling of. The car looked fine in the ran but went all patchy when dry. A mate once asked 'When are you going to do anything with the paintwork on your car ..?" and I replied "when doing so makes the road tax cheaper, it do more mpg or make it more valuable". I still got more money for it that I paid for it when I finally scrapped it. Now that's cheap motoring! ;-)
