N-plate 1.3 escort hatch.
Noticed the other day that if I go over a signficant bump with the front right wheel there is a noise as if the hubcap is already smashed to bits but bouncing off the road a bit more for good measure. The hubcap itself is solid and whole. Also noticed a 'slap-slap-slap' noise from the same wheel when in reverse. As I said, hubcap seems fine so, what the hell is this noise likely to be?! Don't see anything plasticy stuck in around the wheel or anything...

I had this once on my old Escort. It turned out that the steel hubcap had come off and was rattling around inside the wheel trim. It wasn't until I needed a tyre change that I finally found out what the rattle was. :) Of course, it only rattled at low speed and over bumps, the centrigual force of the wheel turning at higher speeds stopped it.
