Noise when turning

Bit of a odd problem to describe. When steering left or right there is a noise not a grinding as such but a gentle whine which changes in tone the more I turn or change steering direction. After driving for 10 mins their is no noticeable noise just at startup.

The car has a new ribbed belt for the PAS aswell.

Just wondering what it could be or if something major is lurking.

Thanks

Sounds like low power steering fluid or low pressure.

Peter smith submitted this idea :

PAS pump, or the PAS fluid level low?

low fluid is the first check, if that is ok then let it develop for a while, if it gets steadily worse then it is probably wear in the pump. I have seen vehicles in the past where the power steering reservoir has been topped up with screenwash, so you could change the fluid , it wouldn't hurt in any case.
