number plate peeling

Hi,I bought a 60 plate Mondeo from a Ford dealer in November 2011. I'venoticed the number plates, both front and back, are peeling. The bestway I can describe it is as if there is "cling film" peeling off thenumber plate.I tried phoning the dealer to see whether they might change them freeof charge considering I've only recently bought the car but I'mwaiting for a reply.I've only washed the car once or twice! But I did use a pressurewasher the one time. I don't remember standing particularly close orlingering over the same spot but could this have caused it?What's the best thing to do: new plates? Or should I just scrape thedamaged layer off and leave the old ones on?If I get new plates, what are the best sort to buy? I hear there aredifferent types but I know nothing about them.TIA

Washed the Yeti yesterday and noticed the corner of the front one starting to peel. Guess this is the same type as the OP has then!

Hello,

The dealer has agreed to replace them FOC. The ones on at the moment say they are manufactured by "best plate".

I am not sure what delamination looks like, so I don't know if it has happened to me. What was peeling was a thin film of plastic, like cling film. I managed to make the plates look a bit more presentable by scraping it off with one of those window scraper, Stanley- knife-blade-in-a-handle type of tools. The film did not look coloured, and I suspect the plates are the originals so it has been on for 2 years.
