Oil blowing up through dipstick

Hello!I have a 1997 Ford Escort that recently has started giving me problems.The problem is oil blowing up through the dipstick. What can causethis? How can it be fixed? This has caused the car to stall. Beforestalling the car sounds like it is having a hard time getting fuel, asit makes a rattling noise.This is the only transportation I have (until I can find a better job)and cannot afford a car payment at this time. A friend of mine told meto replace the head gasket. Will this help?Any help and advice are greatly appreciated!Mary
