I bought a new Toyota Yaris in January. It's the most basic, cheapest petrol model. According to its user guide the first service (10,000 miles or one year) is just an oil and filter change. (Mine will have done about 6,000 miles when the year's up.)
The Toyota dealer charges ninety-five quid for that so I thought I'd buy the filter and oil and do it myself - or get the local garage to do it. (They said they'd charge ten quid if I supplied the oil and filter.) I've checked that the warranty would not be invalidated.
What oil would be best? It's got in it the Toyota oil they put in at manufacture in Japan. I would be able to start as I mean to go on - and so I could use really good oil. How about using fully synthetic and sticking with it? What advantage would that be? Is it good to keep to the same make? Any other advice?
