Omega timing belt

Hi all

Can anyone tell me the service interval for timing belt on Omega 2.0l 16 valve

Tis my son's car. He can't find the hand book!

Also before I get the tools out, as I expect I will have to change it for him, is it a particularly difficult belt to do?

I have done timing belts before but not ones needing a specialist tensioning guage to do them correctly.

I don't want to get a Haynes manual just to find out that I need to get a garage to do it.

Thanks

Tony

My last car was a 2.0 litre Omega and I changed the timing belt myself without too much difficulty - I certainly didn't require any special tools. As I recall the interval was 60k but I let the Haynes manual go with the car when I traded it in and cannot be positive on that. I have a vague recollection that there are two different types of adjuster depending upon the engine number and so you have to be careful to make sure that you are reading from the correct instructions. I used the Haynes manual to do the job so I would recommend getting one.

36k. and use a geunine Gates / GM belt and change the tensioner / idlers too. kit from dealer ~£60 which includes all the bits needed. Be warned these engines do and will break belts and valve damage results.

Depending on the age of the car, the interval is either 36K or 40K miles. Vehicles after 1996 had a 10K service interval.

The belt is not especially difficult to do, the only specialist tool needed is a camshaft locking tool. No tensioing gauge is needed as you tighten the belt until a pointer lines up with a mark on the tensioner body.

I would recommend replacing the tensioner and idler rollers at the same time as the cambelt. The whole lot can be bought as a kit from a Vx dealer.

You can improvise the locking device - I did and replaced the belt without difficulty and without buying expensive equipment that may never be needed again.
