1.8t timing belt a PITA?

Sep 15, 2003 2 Replies

Hi all,

I was over at a friend's shop the other day and he mentioned that the timing belt is a real PITA to do on A4 1.8t cars (my jetta)... prior to this, I hadn't heard of it being any more difficult than any other car.

He's certainly no VW specialist, but he's worked on a few...

Is the timing belt anything particularly difficult to do on the newer 1.8t cars? I'm just curious, I have a bunch of miles before I have to worry about doing mine.

thanks, Craig

PITA- NO, but it does take longer to do than the older cars.

PITA- Yes, if you don't do it every day. I heard that you have to pull off the pullies and all that jazz.... VW warranty time is a bit more than the older models because of this. :-)
