OT Is there a decent 12V tyre inflator

Oh of course, but you'll have to wait until my executors get the £250 from YBF.

I might risk it up to about 40 PSI. I once got my Viva HC back after a service with 45 lbs in each tyre . . .

Willy Eckerslyke explained on 20/03/2009 :

Squeeze the pipe and watch the pressure rise. Whether thy could achieve dangerous pressures would depend on how much time you have to wait and any leaks.

Not tried it on a tyre, but i have some american air shockers on the back of my motorhome, can raise the rear by 3 inches by pumping up the air line to them,

problem is for the weight of my motorhome (4.3 tons) it needs a pressure of

200 psi to get the full 3 inch lift (max working pressure of the shocks is 230 psi), my proper air compressor only goes to 135 psi, it raises the motorhome pretty fast as theres lots of volume, but dosent get more than about 1.6 inches of lift.

to get the rest of the pressure into the shockers i use a cheapo 12 volt tyre inflator, it takes bloody ages and i have to wedge the chuck onto the valve or it flies off at 150 psi, but i can take the shockers upto 200 psi, the motor is usually smoking when i've finished, but anyone who has seen inside the plastic case of one of these tyre inflators will see why.

my motorhomes tyres run at 65 psi, havent found a petrol station compressor that can do anywhere near that for the past 5 years, most of them let the tyres down if i try. have to seek out a proper truck stop if i need to inflate the tyres on a trip, or wait half a day for the 12 volt inflator to do it,

i know in america you can buy RV rated 12 volt inflators (100 psi and of a volume that dosent take all day to inflate a 355 x 22 tyre), they are expensive, and pull a lot of power, but they do the job, havent seen them over here tho.

Get a fridge compressor and use that, it should run up to 250 psi without a problem, I used one as a primary compressor on a big cylinder for years before I got a normal compressor, I had it set to shut off at 160 psi.
