Poor starting

Some clue as to how it runs just after starting would help. Does it appear to be suffering over or underfuelling whilst trying to start.

Is this just cold starting or all the time???

When it has started, what is the idle quality like?

We need alot more info please.

I had this problem on my old 1800 Lancia Dedra. (similar engine) Warm starting it was a frustrating experience. Many people said change the distributor cap so I did, along with the leads. The problem SEEMED to be less so and the car continued to run well once started. My next step would have been to have bought a performance coil, but I'm not really sure if this would have helped much.

It seems to happen when hot or cold. The other day it started poorly only half after being driven. Once going the idle is fine. Although when it is idling there is a lot of vibration despiye being at the correct rpm. It has done this for about a year now so may or may not be linked to the starting problem. I am sure it used to idle very smoothly. As for the fuel flow - I wouln't know. I always start it with feet of the pedals as it is auto choke. Steve

Ahhh - Auto choke may be the problem, I find them very unreliable and have swapped them for manual chokes on several carb cars I've owned over the years.
