Price , and advice

Hi Guys

I have been offered a 13month old Renault Scenic Fidji 1.6 Manual with 12000 miles on the clock , recently serviced for £6000

This is less then I belief the car is worth . It belongs to my dad who has a new compnay car on the way , and he just wants what is left on the finance.

Now I wasnt planning on replacing my Skoda until back end of 2004 as it will be getting used a lot to take rubbish to the tip as I decorate the house.

I am a little short of the £6k but could manage it . What are people general opinions on these cars. It will be used at weekends mainly for a mixture of

50% town 50% motorway driving , and I anticipate doing 5000mile a year in it

As its only 1 year old , its clean and no issues so far.

What is likely to fail on this car.

buy it. personally don't like french cars *at all* but its still got warranty etc. If you don't like it you can always sell it on for a profit.

I wouldn't buy a car on the basis that you think you can sell it at a profit. It's not that easy.

If you can get the money together, and budget for the dealer servicing (to keep up the warranty), then this is the sort of car-buying opportunity that's too good to miss, unless you simply don't like the car. You've checkedthe market price (I assume), you know how the previous owner looked after it, you know it kosher, you see it daily and know it's history,it'sunder warranty etc. and you can give it a good going-over before you decide.

Heaven!

You can always have a lok at PArker'sonline and check the value and see if they flag any problems

Judging by the number of secondhand car dealers round here that have closed down recently, no. Most people just don't believe the prices in Parker's etc and won't pay them when buying privately. That's not to say you won't find a mug, just don't bank on it.

That's not what I've seen at auctions. Seems to be a fair amount of private buyers determined to pay well over the odds (between private and dealer price in Parkers). I expect that's hurting dealers.
