Remember that car I bought last year? Folks here said I'd be making a terrible mistake, Im only looking at "the shine" and will need to have a lot of work done to it as it was approaching the age where things like bushes would start going.Well.I don't know how to say this.But.Guess what/Nothings wrong with it.So much for "Banger Economy".I've got a great car, that's very reliable, drives well and hasn't needed any work doing to it.Of course it was shiny, but that was a bonus on top of the fact that it drives well and doesn't look repaired. It suits my budget and I like Nissans.Oh and to all those who tried to stick their noses into my finances and tried to flame me for buying a car on credit card, ask me one thing...Would I do it again?Absolutely.Damn right I would. The APR on the card may be a little higher, but it gives you the flexibility to pay off more or less what you want, when you want. A loan has the interest charged up front. A credit card has the interest calculated on the balance.It's amazing how many of you idiots don't actually get that.I effectively have a flexibile loan where my minimum repayment is very affordable should an emergency crop up.Am I glad I didn't listen to you bunch of arrogant self absorbed egotistical piss ants.

If you're looking at 3 yr old cars, they're mostly the same and in good condition. At 10+ years old there is much more variation. You can find really good bangers, but you do have to shop around much more, and rely on a bit of luck.

Never trudge the country looking for bangers because most of them are crap and you will waste a lot of time and money going around to look at them. You have to shop locally and not be too fussy about make and model so there's more choice.

Huzzah! A thoughtful post. Quite right about the shopping around and relying on luck - and trust. It's not really something I fancy doing, not any more.

I suppose that's part of my problem in that I do like my Nissan Primeras. I could never touch a Ford. Unless you paid me. The driving position for me is just totally off, the pedals seeem close together. I've never had a major problem like that with a Nissan they really do connect to me. Finding a good Nissan can be a rarity.

If it was overpriced, I would say it was only slightly overpriced. Comparing it to the other advertised Primeras of a similar spec and condition, I thought it was quite reasonable.

Also seven years back, I paid £3k for an auto P10 with 70k on the clock

- on reflection, that was a total banger right from the get go with a sludged engine. On that car the oil rails clogged and I got quite a worn camshaft because of it.

So with that experienced, with this one, everything checked out. Great ride, couldn't feel any mechanical issues, good power, no rust and the price seemed to check out compared to other dealers and the price guides.

So I took a peek in rocker box. Spotless. That pretty much sealed the deal for me. Look after the engine and the smegger will look after you forever.

Even now, despite me driving the crap out of it, the oils still clean after two months. My last car, the oil would be black within a couple of weeks.

So, yeah, Im pissed off with the farts around here suggesting I should get an unknown piece of crap.

Plus it's got Xenon headlights :-)
