When wipers switched on they move about 2 inch then stop. Switch off and re-apply and wipers flick as though trying to move but not able to.
Rear wiper and all washers work.
Is the problem likely to be with the wiper stalk, an earth lead or are they just stuck?

When you switch wipers on, power is supplied to the motor which allows it to move a bit - enough to allow it to reach the parking track which supplies power the rest of the way so they carry on and park when you cut the power. Sounds like yours are getting as far as the track - and stopping.
Personally I'd take the gearbox apart (the wiper gearbox, of course!) and see if the tracks are still making contact with the wotnot.
