I went to look for the gearbox code, and came across a loose cable, very odd and not sure where to plug it in. I have done a small page with a photo, if someone can kindly tell me where it goes as I am unable to drive the car because of my gearbox.
the highlighted bit dosnt show up too well on my monitor, the arrow is pointing to a rubber elbow on the left hand side of the shot,you sure its a cable you've pointed out as it looks like a vaccum pipe to me going to the egr valve and on the other end is possibly a small filter.
i traced the cable and it was that, the elbow on the left side, it's like a tube which goes right on the phone, in between other tubes and cables, then the loose end as can be seen on the photo.
When I took it to one of the mechanics because of issues with the gearbox, he suggested we change the ignition leads
Sonunds like a great mechanic.
That cable is actually a vaccuum pipe.
How the flying f*ck would changing ignition leads help a faulty gearbox?
u know where it plugs in? maybe on the photo?

Cheers for the link. going to take it to the VW dealer so they can confirm it's the gearbox that's the issue, about 500 yards from where it's parked. i asked a couple of friends, they're not sure, i can ask someone else, but you think it's safe to drive for 500 yards? gearbox not gone completely (if it's truly faulty), but i can get it towed with someone later on the week.

If the gearbox is at fault, it's probably screwed anyway by now.
