Removing a rounded-off glowplug

Probably it has been rounded off by someone using the wrong size spanner, so it may not be very, very tight.

snap the little thread off and hammer on an undersized socket, preferably a single hex type. preferably use a T bar to turn. I would try when the engine is fully hot, obviously plus gas should have been applied a few times before.

If you can't get the undersized socket to go on then a locking wheel nut remover (Or Irwin nut remover) should bite.

Thanks guys, I'll try removing first with the locked nuts on the electrode; if it snaps off I'll hammer a socket on and go from there...

Would it do any harm if he just forgot about it and let it start on the three new glowplugs? That's what I'd be tempted to do.

I was just starting on two until I bought a ratchet spanner with a flexi bit to get in behind the fuel filter housing!

Trouble is, I'm running on B100 biodiesel. when it's warm there is no problem but when the temperature was -5C like last week it was a real bitch to start on just the two cylinders. The weather has turned now and it starts fine but it's bugging me, I want to get it changed ;)

I'll happily bet a pint that if & when can be swapped in that sentence :-)

I'm also running 100% B100 (at 88p per litre why wouldn't I ... LOL) in my 306TD and have no problems even on the coldest days, so I'd agree to swap all 4 :)

Been there and done that with this problem...

I endede up with the plug shearing off :-( It ended up with the head coming off and the engineering co. drilling the damn thing out :-(

That said my plug was stuck in, it actually sheared off below the threads, no amount of carbon eater, plus gas or 25k of compression would shift out :-( (the head came off because of a number of other reasons and thats how and why i eventually got it out)

Use a socket that grips the flats like a metrinch/snap-on.

That's a good price, it's a shame I don't come down there. I've got no local suppliers (that I can find), I buy mine from near Blackpool as I get out that way every week. 93p/litre, a bit more than yours but still cheaper than diesel...

Heh, come down to Cheltenham for the Gold Cup and buy a couple of thousand litres with your winnings :)

I may be being a tad thick - the injector pump is the thing to the LHS front of the head as you look at it stood infront of the bumper? And if it says Bosch on it I can bang biodiesel in? Do folk who sell biodiesel generally have pumps etc. or is it something you buy in bulk?

Aye, it should have some pipes running off it, one end of it should be driven off the timing belt (undercover), and it'll be attached to one end of the accelerator cable.

ISTR that has Bosch stamped on it. Anyone know if the Lucas one is considerably different looking to be 100% sure?
