I have had no end of problems with my renault megane. My husband refuses to spend any more money on it. The most recent problem is the asb brake light now comes on and I am not sure if I should be driving it or not as I am worried the brakes will fail completely if I do. When its on the car brakes ok still, but sometimes when I start up the light does not come on and when I press the brake pedal it vibrates a lot. Does anyone know how what is needed to fix this problem?

It's probably just a dodgy electrical sender somewhere, shouldn't be a huge issue to fix.
don't worry about the brakes failing, the only change will be that if you brake hard enough for the car to skid, it'll skid as you won't have ABS.

If it's old enough and due it will also fail an MOT.

Not *quite*... I've had an ABS sensor fail similarly - and until the ECU decides that the sensor's duff and turns ABS off, it will throw a total paranoia and activate at any braking, just like it sounds as if the OP's is doing.
This can, as I'm sure you imagine, be an issue.
I recall a visit to Shropshire - we stopped at the top of Long Mynd, to watch the gliding club for a bit. Got back in the car, started it up, headed off down the hill - narrow single track lane with a big wall on one side and a big... drop... on the other.
The ABS decided to play. At one stage we were accelerating reasonably quickly down the hill due to gravity with the ABS going pitty-patty-pitty- patty on the pedal...
Luckily it decided all of a sudden that the sensor was duff, the light came on, and we stopped. A large van coming the other way appeared round the next bend...

I don't recall whether the van was a Renault or not - it may well have been, but my car wasn't. The ABS system was Bosch...
