Renault Scenic Water problems

Sep 02, 2007 4 Replies

I have another one for yous. My sister as a 1998 1.6 Scenic. it has developed a bit of a problem with the cooling system. when it is sitting idlein it blows cold air inside the car, if i rev it to about 2000 rpm the air gets hot. it i loosen of the bleed screw on the heating system, it bubbles out air and the hot air starts to blow inside when idle, if it runs for another 5 mins the air becomes cold again. i have changed the thermostat but that didnt solve the problem. there also seems to be a dirt residue in the water bottle, its not oilly more like gunk from the bottom of the rad. please tell me its not the beginning of a head gasket problem

Thanks

i did a renault scenic recently, similiar problems, turned out that the vanes on the water pump had fallen off.

thanks for that, but i had the water pump off when i was changing de thermostat, as i was checking for leaks, and it is all intact and working.

Sounds like either the system need bleeding properly or you have a leak in the heater side of things.

Most likely the head gasket then.
