Others may suggest you do it more often though - I don't really know if these are prone to belt failure or not Unfortunately there is a cruel element of truth in what Pete said - it's not unknown for the HG to blow before belt gets replaced. Maintaining the cooling system with regular changes (at least bi-annual) is of paramount importance here.

As others have said, 60K miles is official figure, but if you can do it yourself then I would do it more often (say every two years or 30K miles). Provided you keep a close eye on the cooling system there should be no need to worry unduly about the head gasket...

I love the rover 200 series & the K series engine, admitably they have problems as said in earlier posts regarding the headgaskets, but its not much of a problem doing them, ive lost count of the number ive done over the years ( never the same one twice ) as long as you get the cylinder head pressure checked and skimmed and a good quality head set and new head bolts ( I don't bother measuring them ) & new cylinder to block locating dowels, there should never be a problem of having to do it twice !

Thanks Darren. I had to buy it as stop gap and it was all I could find quickly so now I am stuck with it and will make sure it is maintained more often than recommended. pete
