Rover 600 got confused. Fuel Starvation

Did it sound like it was between 700 and 1800rpm? IE Did the RPM gauge seem accurate? If not and it was just giving whacky readings this can be attributed to the crank angle sensor.

If this isn't the case, maybe faulty plugs?

As for the throttle position sensor you can look up the values and test it with a multimeter for resistance. It should be a smooth curve. It is located on the throttle body, but don't take it off or Rover will need to set it up again for you. All the cars in the scrap yards round here have had the whole throttle body taken off and swapped, providing the tps on those was good it's much cheaper than buying a new one and then paying Rover to set it up.

If you notice a performance difference, it could be one of the sensors is faulty and so the ECU is using default values and operating in limp home mode and ignoring the sensor, thus why the problem seems to have cleared up. I'm sure if this was the case you'd notice as it'd eat petrol as fast as you can put it in.

It seems very settled now. In fact the car is running better then ever. A friend of mine who works on exhaust systems for custom sports build reckons the EMS has just blipped. hes seen it before and says just keep an eye on idling and fuel,

I will get it checked out when it goes for MOT next month just in case.
