Rugged alarm learning remote?

Is there such a thing as an alarm fob that can "learn" from an existing (but dying) fob? Such as those TV all-in-1 remote controls?

And if so, does it come in a robust housing able to withstand the hard knockabout hostile environment known as the inside of a handbag? The existing fob has lost some of its plastic and now is on its deathbed.

I doubt it - kind of a security risk? Most are RF now not IR and some 'learn' from the car side.

Try removing some of the hostile objects from your handbag. ;-)

You can buy replacement cases for some makes (like Cobra), try ebay.

Yes, the one in question is RF.

Hey, it's not my handbag but swmbo's very hostile one! Dare not enter.

OK. The current one is a replacement but its replacement really needs to undergo full military training if it's to survive.

The message from Colum Mylod contains these words:

Unlilkely since all modern alarms use a rolling code which changes each time they're used to avoid "grabbing" with an IR receiver and subsequent replay by the blackhats. The previous code is not valid and won't disarm the alarm - the next code expected is generated by an algorithm in both units - the receiver accepting several codes ahead of the one it's expecting to allow for people fiddling with the button in their pocket, but never accepting any from behind the queue.

A hypothetical "learning" remote would have to be able to deduce what algorithm is being used and that's deliberately not easy, particularly from a realistically small number of button presses.
