Running On

Bought a sierra as a run around 1600 pinto h-plate good nick,except a slight niggle,the other night turned it off and it kept running as in spluttering turned the key on again came back to life???turned it off and it went of,any pointers??

If it's got a VV carb, then they've got an anti run-on valve somewhere. Check that first.

It's called dieseling and it happens (usually) when there is a carbon build-up on the valves and/or pistons which gets hot enough to keep igniting fuel vapours until they run out.

Ford fitted anti-dieseling valves to a lot of their cars years ago because of this problem. You can tell which cars had them because of the loud hiss when the car was turned off - lots of air being admitted to the manifold.

You could check for such a valve, to see if it's working, as Guy says, or give it a Redex-ing if it's a problem.

wire to the auto choke unit, could that be where the anti-run on valve is?think it's the webber 2v card by the way.
