Screen damage

What I actually did was click through the websites of the company and the North Wales police to find the easiest point of contact. A single click of the company's page got me a list of emails including "transport@..." and the director's email, so I copied a message to both.

Whereas the police website gave me a screen full of crap telling me how wonderful they are and a "contact" link that results in: "An error occurred on the server when processing the URL. Please contact the system administrator." (This link worked OK on someone else's PC, so is probably upset by my use of Noscript. I could probably fix it by setting Noscript to "allow north-wales.police.org, but I'd rather not.)

For reasons of cost we've elected to go down the Speedwatch route.

But you don't pay for it. The cynic in me says its so you make sure only non-residents get reported.

Cynicism is of course your prerogative. But we are not fussy. Anyone will do.

If it's any help to you, I went past one morning when I was not in the group that day at 34 mph. Not easy to live it down.

Um, no that doesn't help. It would help to know what the outcome of your transgression was, though.

Whether you live in or out of the village you are not going to get pilloried for 4 mph over the odds, and certainly not for a single occasion. But if you are a cynic you will judge that I got away with it because I live here. But that isn't actually the case. Anyone would have.

The local population pays for it by having a higher council tax (in the old days they'd say they'd put a penny on the rate.)

And of course they reported you and you saw your details on the monthly list?

So you watch for speeders but don't actually record those that the Police would?

The cameras are self funding if part of a partnership.

Never checked, actually. But they had every right to.

Possibly so. But we didn't go down this route.

Because I bet most of the Speedwatch mob know they'd be caught and because reporting is out of their hands, they'd not get away with it.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember Rob Graham saying something like:

Don't I just know it. The others have formed a committee to try to decide what to do about it. A white paper is expected to be issued in three years time.
