Sudden cheesy stink in car

Hi, I got out of my Mondeo to photograph the floods. Reentered and noticed a stink. Thinking I'd walked in something examined shoes they were clean, removed overlay carpets just to be sure, but the stink is worse every day. Any tips on how to locate/pin down where it's coming from and what it could be? Have searched car for anything obvious. BTW the carpets did not get wet. But have driven through floodwater a few days earlier

I once drove through a flood that turned out to be raw sewage, as it cooked on the hot components under the car.........voila the Stink

Chris I reckon that's it,I think the water must be in some compartment under the car, by the way it doesn't need to be sewerage the water mixes with dust and dirt and then with the heat you get bacteria. Oh well I'll just have live with it for a while!

Do you have air con? It's possible the flood water has gone up the drainage pipe and contaminated the condenser, or perhaps it's a coincidence- air con systems can be hosts to bacterial growth and pongs.. AIUI there's disinfectant sprays available to treat this very problem.

Yep I've got air-con, guess it's that. However the stink is worst when the car has been standing overnight, not too bad when actually driving.

Monday drive through floods but only because "pushed" by cars behind Friday : First time I drive more than a few miles I get the stink after about an hour of driving Tuesday : Stink every day first thing, not too bad driving,

But now I know what it is, I'm not so worried Dave

First thing I would try would be to replace the pollen filter, next would be to run an air con sanitiser. (any car shop should have both)

of course the other thing that frequently happens to these is the connector for the heater fan speed resistor burns out, that may give you an unpleasant smell. (up behind the glove box in the side of the ducting, any ford dealer will have a new resistor and wiring connector in stock, again a cheap job)

Reminds me of when I trod on (and picked up most of) a dead mouse - really stank when the heater was on my feet!
