"Summer" screenwash additive

Is there such a thing? - it just strikes me as a bit wasteful to have a spirit loaded additive when it isn't necessary.

Not sure I understand why it isn't necessary. My screen gets even more greasy in summer and could do with a bit of meths to cut through it.

Definitely needed all year! It stops bugs in the fluid; these create some sort of white, slimy gunge (technical term) that will quickly block jets, pump filter, pipes and any non-return valves.

Avoiding the need to clear it all out is worth every penny of what a decent additive costs!

"John" gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying:

It is necessary in summer.

Especially when it's not rained for a while so oil/diesel/grease/rubber have built up on the road surface - then you get a short, sharp shower - just enough to lift it all off and get REALLY filthy spray.

Yep, that is what I wanted to say, but you put it much more eloquently than my post. I used to buy the properscreen wash, but now put in a cupful of meths (after sip of course :-)))) and an ever so tiny squirt of washing up liquid.

Graham

Thanks guys - I confess to not considering the grease cutting properties of the meths - only the antifreeze properties.

Yep. It gets sold in Aldi and Lidl most springs / early summer for a week. Super concentrated stuff. Works very very well.

IIRC Einszett make a screenwash that's very similar. Does have a bit of spirit content but a lot more detergent.
