Testing clutch

I had a new clutch fitted a couple of weeks ago to my Rover 200. On the whole it seems OK but I have developed some doubts and would like to know a definitive way of testing it.



On the first couple of day, I got it back, after putting it into reverse to go down my drive, I noticed, what smelt like the usual friction material smell but not since then. However, I think I have noticed it occasionally, whilst out driving.



I've done the suggested thing I read, about upping the revs on a slight incline, but there's no indication that the engine is racing away, as far as I can tell.



I suspect that it will go on for a long time yet but if it is slipping slightly, then obviously it's life is going to be drastically shortened ! Any tips much appreciated.

did you have the flywheel skimed at the same time as the clutch replacement?

if not it could be that the clutch was seating in to the ridges on the flywheel.

I doubt it was skimmed. It's a good theory. Once it's settled down, is it likely to be OK then ?

Put the car into top gear with handbrake on, rev the engine to say 3K and engage the clutch. It should kill the engine. If it doesn't, then something is amiss.

Thanks for that Rob. Well it stops the engine well enough ! I'll just have to hope it'll settle down.
