Two vehicle insurance cover

I've just purchased a New vehicle but would like to keep my old one as well, at the moment I'm insured with Churchill Insurance.

I thought that it may be possible to have a single insurance covering both vehicles, as long as I'm the only registered driver (it's obvious that I can't drive two vehicles at once) and either vehicle would be off-road when not in use.

They told me that this kind of arrangement is not possible and that I will have to insure both vehicles on a separate policies.

However wifey told me that she's pretty sure that she heard an advertisement by an insurance company offering a two vehicle cover on a single policy.

Does anyone know if there is such a thing, and if so who the insurance company may be.. Tia Ivan

It used to be possible to do this a long time ago, but not now. Note that your policy for the second vehicle will not take into account any no claims discount you have.

A few insurers offer a small discount for a second vehicle; I think Direct Line does.

cover up to six cars on a single policy, no idea how good the insurance cover is though. Paul

It is possible, Admiral do it. They're the ones that have advertised the fact. Try Footman James as well.

Thanks for all of the prompt replies, my wife has confirmed that it was indeed Admiral, so will give them a ring and see if their terms are more in line with what I'm looking for, if so then it's got to be worth attempting to use it as a lever in trying to negotiate with Churchill (who I really don't want to leave, as I have been satisfied with their service over many years).

Direct Line seem to be quite expensive overall however, so they over inflate prices prior to the second-vehicle offer. Still might give a wee bit of a saving of course, and worth a try.

Admiral offer to match your main car NCB on a 2nd vehicle - even if they don't insure the main vehicle. Which is nice. Especially as they also issue full NCB entitlement on a 2nd car after 1 year. That's what I did when I insured the 75 last summer.

What happens if you make a claim and have two policies (with NCB)?

Does it count as a claim for both policies, or do you only lose one NCB?

You'd only lose one NCB, however, your 'base' premium would be loaded by the accident.

FJ definitely do it on classic policies.

FWIW I'm currently going through a household claim with Churchill. They won't be getting our business next year.

On the insurance theme I'm going through a claim with Admiral who also won't be getting my business next year. I collided with someone who pulled out of a junction in front of me, I swerved and stopped in front of him and then he bunny hopped into the side of my car leaving a sizable dent behind the passenger door. Then the bastard drove off while we were parking the cars out of the way, luckily I remembered his registration and he later got a visit from the old bill :) If I meet him again he may end up with a dent in his face.

I phoned Admiral and said I didn't want to claim if it was going to affect my accident history / NCB and they said fine, we'll try and get a admission of liability from the other insurers which they did. They said I'd have to pay my excess amount to the repairer and that they'll send it back to me. I got it repaired and after a month they hadn't sent me the money so I phoned up and was told it was an "uninsured loss" and that I needed to make a separate claim with a partner company. I suspect this is just to get twice the admin fees from the at fault insurer but I started to go through the motions until it became apparent that the other company - Albany Assistance - are incompetent, annoying and didn't have any of the details of the accident. I've got a recording of the phone call (I record all my calls which is perfectly legal) where they said that they would send the excess to me. I'm going to make a lot of noise when I get round to it.

Any thoughts on whether or not I've got a case against Admiral?

Thanks,

Peter.

You would have to declare the claim on both (it should only directly count on one NCB but both will be loaded for the claim just as if you had made a claim on your company car).

I have three cars insured and it's still cheaper to get the best quote for each, rather than one for all. It currently adds up to about a grand a year for all three.

Churchill are always a bit pants for me - im now using a specialist insurer but they offered to cover me on a van and give me full NCB on a second policy making it very cheap.

RAC game me some NCB-mathc type stuff when I first insured a car that itself had no NCB but of course when it came to renewal the price doubled as only the 1 years worth of NCB was used.

Snipped..

ecarinsurance let you add 2 cars, I'm not sure how NCB works though , they do have to be same level of cover.
