We found his locking wheel nut key and sent him to ATS when we did not have his tyres in stock. As for "allegedly" running a tyre fitting business, you just want me to name so you can claim spam.

Well I was impressed as I don't know of a single tyre company in the UK that can make my claim? Michelin claim that their tyres can travel around the world, my customer has done half of that to get to me.

Feedback on eBay is about service and quality of good's supplied, you have just reminded me that care in the community is not working.

It's about the ability to not f*ck up shoving exactly what you advertised (and flogged cheap) onto a courier.
Well, as expected, this thread has produced the usual amount of personal preferences.
Has anyone actually checked an independant tyre test such as the ones done by Which? These often come up with interesting facts, and cheap, unbranded tyres are often far better than some would accept. Just because you pay a lot of money for a big name tyre does not necessarily mean that you get a better product.
I now wait for the inevitable personal abuse from certain contributors.

A friend of mine got 85,000 miles out of the Michelin X's on the back of her Beetle. Since they were on the car when she got it, they must have done more than that. One still had enough tread left to make a reasonable spare.

Interesting. The problem with any of these tests, or surveys is what people expect, and different driving styles. On one search I made, I found wildly different reports, from absolutely amazing to utter rubbish. And this was for the same tyre! All very subjective.

Might it be the case that your earlier cars didn't have power steering? That is a big tyre killer if you often need to go from lock to lock when parking.
I always used Eco-Contacts on my Focus. I was totally happy with them apart from the wear rate. I perhaps drive a little too enthusiastically; one pair of fronts only lasted 10k miles. I would be over the moon to get 26k from them.
I was persuaded by a tyre retailer that Goodyear Eagle NCT5's would be just as good, but with a longer life, so I had a set fitted. Big mistake! They were inferior in every way to the Eco-Contacts. It is possible that their life might have been slightly longer, but I didn't save any money because I changed them earlier.
A lot depends on your priorities. I want good levels of wet and dry grip, and the ability to exploit the handling of my car. If you feel the same, I would urge you to stick with the same type of tyre the manufacturer fitted.
You can make savings by shopping around. When I changed back to the Conti's, I had quotes of almost 70 quid! I eventually got them at a local independent for 39.
There are three main parameters of tyres. Grip, wear rate and price. IME over 45 years of motoring, you can't have all three at once...
