Vauxhall Astra Air Con Noise (and a whiff of smoke)

Jun 19, 2006 3 Replies

Hi, second message today ... this time it's my car.

My 1.6 16V Club has a suspect air con. I have noticed after extended use that as the revs increase, so does a high pitch noise from the air con unit, that goes when it is switched off. Also, noticed a whiff a smoke the other day when it was switched off to normal fan operation.

It still pumps out cold air, but any ideas what is going on with it?

Your help as always ... appreciated.

pollen filter needs changing??

The pollen filter was clogged already and changed at service just over a month ago.

probably the fan unit is starting to seize up, get to the heater fan and see if it spins easily, any resistance is too much, it should move with a very light touch. spray the bearings with a light oil and see if that makes the fault go away. other possibility is the heater fan resistor pack melting.
