VW EGR valve

I'd like to experiment with disabling the EGR valve on my VW (140ps TDi PD engine) and before I take it somewhere to get it done properly via VAGCOM, I thought it would be worth trying a temporary physical disablement to see if there's any benefit.



Can anyone confirm that this thing is the EGR valve

and that plugging what looks like a vacuum pipe leading to it (the pipe with a small bolt shoved in the end) will stop any recirculation? TIA

guys have done this precedure properly. You can indeed use 'adaption' in VAG-COM but the best way is to blank the stainless steel manifold pipe off completely. Don't plug the vacuum pipe or you'll get engine management light coming on and fault codes.It's worth while to clean the inside of the EGR valve while your in there. I'll bet it's full of crap. JB

One possible problem is that I don't know if the 2.0 TDI is common (or available?) in the US, and the tdiclub guys are mostly North American. They do pretty much know the 1.9 engines inside out though.
