VW Polo CL

1991 Polo CL, 1043cc carburettor engine. Just bought this old gal cheap. When starting from cold it idles perfectly until starting to move then it coughs and misses for a few hundred yards then settles down and runs perfectly. It doesn't lose water or burn oil, (I have just done a 300 mile round trip). I don't have a manual and can't get one for a while, have to be ordered as I live in the sticks. Looking at online forums the temperature sensors seem to play up on these. I assume there is a sensor telling the carburettor when the engine is cold, can anyone tell me where it is on the engine, or have any other ideas.

Thanks, Bill
