What is this new 6mth implied warranty on 2nd hand cars?

What is this new 6 months implied warranty that is now supposed to exist on 2nd cars bought from a trader? Lot of them only seem to say they give a 30 days warranty.

This should answer as best as possible. Until not long ago it was stated that dealers had to offer a minimum 90 days warranty. The Sale of Goods act has obviously been recently changed. However, it is clear that although the burdon of proof changes, it still relies on each party actually being able to prove a defect does, or does not, exist. Even then, it has to have existed at the time of sale.

Also check the AA web site for terms of their vehicle inspections, they offer 90 days guarantee against defects on any car they inspected and said was OK.

Small print on the sales contract from some dealers bears phrasing along the lines of " the vehicle is not warranted as being fit for any particular purpose" or some such - look at the small print.

It'll be vague until there are test cases for any given circumstance. However, it seems clear that the current legislation is written to protect both consumers and vendors depending on the timescale.

The message from "R. Murphy" contains these words:

Bet that wouldn't stand up in court. Such things rarely do.

They've not been allowed to do that for quite some time. Things such as 'sold as seen' have not had a legal standing for several years when selling to the general public. For the Motor Trade, there is still the exception when selling to a 'closed trade sale' ie. trade only motor auctions.

Excuse my ignorance but what minimum or implied conditions apply to car sold at an auction open to the general public?
