.............would one expect from a knackered throttle potentiometer? Please list all that would apply. Thanks. I suspect mine may be buggered.

Erratic performance at low throttle openings where it gets the most wear - if indeed it is a true pot, rather than just a switch.
Check by wiring a DVM switched to measure about 5 volts from slider to ground, and observe it closely while someone slowly moves the throttle pedal with the engine stopped, but ignition on.
