Xantia Plastic clutch clip / heavy clutch problem

I had a new clutch in my Citroen Xantia 1.TD about 5000 miles ago (mainly motorway). The plastic clutch clip broke yesterday and I was towed to the nearest Citroen specialist. They say the clutch has gone heavy and due to this a new clip would just break - so it needs another new clutch.

Is this reasonable? What would make a clutch go so heavy with such light usage? The clutch specialist who originally replaced the clutch is 20 miles away - unfortunately I've yet to be able to get in touch with them to ascertain their position, but I'd be grateful of any opinions of where to go from here and any alternative solutions.

New cable. My old man's Xant had a very heavy clutch not long after replacement - new cable, light as a feather.

Well it won't be the clutch, it'll be the cable or the pivot. Cables first port of call as it's easy.

The Citroen specialist is talking shit; a new cable is on the cards!

Same as the 306 these. The auto adjusters go west and cause the clutch to be heavy. A new cable (circa 30 quid) is all it needs.
