On my 1.9 td 96 xantia the clutch seems very heavy, more so since driving a new company car. The xantia has done 70,000 without any problems only service items replaced. The clutch cable was replaced but still tough to depress any ideas or have the clutch replaced

If replacing the cable didn't sort it, then it needs a new clutch. You may be able to put up with it like this for a while, but eventually the plastic clip on the cable will break.
