Zapper battery.

Mate has a Suzuki, three years old. Two keys, one not normally used and kept in a drawer. Needed it recently, and the remote wouldn't work. Took it apart and it has a replaceable battery, which was flat. Perhaps something had pressed a button while it was in the drawer.

The battery is a CR 1820. Couldn't find one locally - Boots etc - nor on Ebay. Dealer wants 15 quid...

A CR 1620 is the same size physically but smaller capacity. Works just fine - although may not last as well. Under 4 quid in Halfords. About a quid each for a decent make on Ebay.

The number on a lithium coin cell denotes the physical size of the cell, the first two digits are the diameter in mm and the second two are the thickness in tenths of mm. Are you sure the original wasn't a CR1620 with a scratch or indistinct stamping?

My brother has a Suzuki and his remote failed when he was visiting recently. I had a box of a dozen 10 year old CR1620s and had to go through them to find one that worked, all but two were totally dead.

Had my zapper pack up a while back and the new battery went in days too. Turned out to be the button part was so worn it was putting it "On" all the time. Bought a new button part off eBay - problem solved.

Absolutely certain. Wish I still had it as I'd take a pic.

You've jogged my mind - I sort of new the number gave the physical size, but couldn't remember how, so thanks. I had seen that similar batteries diameter wise has slightly different numbers for their thickness. So now I know. It also explains why I couldn't find the right one - it must just have been incorrectly labelled.
