Time for a new battery on my 93 Miata. What problems can I expect using a regular battery rather than the specialized Miata battery with its hoses to draw off gas from the cells.

You can expect to fill your trunk up with hydrogen gas if the battery is being charged at a very high rate, or if the voltage regulator goes bad and overcharges it.
Hydrogen gas and air are a very flammable to explosive mixture.
Is it worth saving $30?
